Back Again..

It's been a while since the last post. But then, I was on a holiday....

It was almost a five year plan.  The visit to the UK to see the elder one and S-I-L.

The visa application had been downloaded so many times in the past.  Filled in too.  And just kept aside. I think the elder one did not take us seriously this year either.  Especially when we had not submitted the papers and hardly a month left before our scheduled date of departure.  She threatened to cancel her leave.

And when it finally did happen, it was one major rush.  The passport with the visa arrived a week prior. The scramble for tickets. The volcanic ash almost playing spoilsport. The on and off  airline strike.  And then, suddenly, it happened. The whole family together after a very long time.

We were given a day to rest and then we were off to the countryside.  Initially the camera had not a moment of rest.  Until it appeared that every scene had to be captured.  But how many?

A trip to Lake District, and we realise how Wordsworth, who lived here, might have been inspired. The poetry could have been spontaneous. But while he did pen down his words, I was only left speechless. The scenery  so breathtaking.

While we were sad it ended, we were also glad to get back to the routine, however mundane it might be.  I guess that is what keeps one going.

Groan, groan, another boring day...... another menu to think of ...getting ready to work.... until the next holiday.

  2. Glad to see you back.
You walked the trails whereWordsworth walked? That is just so surreal and magical at the same time. Love those photos. :-)
The visa application I can relate too. I need to renew my Indian passport and I keep procrastinating. Hopefully, it will be ready before I need it.

  3. When I saw the beautiful pictures of the Lakeside and the mention of the great poet Wordsworth in your post , I was reminded of his lines : I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host of golden daffodils......"
It must have been an exhilarating experience for you to have walked on such scenic spots. Are there guided tours?

  9. The landscape looks really beautiful! It must be so good to be there and think about the literary history that is embedded within it. It reminds me of a little museum on Van Gogh in Neunen, in the Netherlands. It's this little village where Van Gogh lived for two years and you can walk the route that covers some of the churches and houses he painted there. Their website says : "You walk where Vincent was, you sit where Vincent was and still see what Vincent saw then" It was such a beautiful experience within such simple surroundings.

  11. I have heard about Lake district too but we were not able to make it in our London trip, last time. After seeing your beautiful pictures, I have to visit it somehow, next time.

I can understand how you feel about the holiday...I felt the same, I too wanted to get back to my 'what tiffin in the morning, what for lunch' routine!

  12. Oh those photographs are incredible. What a wonderful trip away for you...but I understand the 'getting back to routine' you speak of. I received your note and sent you an invitation to my blog....I'll send it again if you did not receive it. Been very busy just living life the way I should...writing, exploring beaches and now my son is working here this summer...sorry haven't been keeping in touch.

  13. @Nona - Thank you. Yes,had a lot of fun. One of the best holidays.
@Manju, Kavi, Aarti - extremely peaceful. No pollution, no crowds.
@Indian Bazaars - so beautifully expressed. I did find out later, that Van Gogh also lived for a short while in London. Will hunt out his house the next time. I did think of your blog, when I saw a quaint local fair at the High Street there.
@Sandhya - Guess the routine is what keeps us going and groaning!
@Trish - I did not receive the invitation again. Able to log in, but not comment.

  15. @ Renu - You can go on long treks ( even with children in their strollers), go on a cruise on any of the lakes, walk the high street, laze in the parks, take a ride in the steam engine train. We did not have time to do anything else!! But I am told there is more.
